Xocolatl Aztec Recipe
Original:
Of Cacaos, 700
of white Sugar, one pound and a half
Cinnamon, 2. Ounces
of long red pepper, 14 (Chilparlagua)
of Cloves, half an ounce
Three Cods of the Logwood or Campeche tree;
or in stead of that, the weight of 2 Reels, or a shilling of Aniseeds (Vinacaxlidos)
as much of Agiote, as will give it the color, which is about the quantity of a Hazelnut.
Some put in Almonds, kernels of Nuts, and Orange-flower-water.
